Are You a Christian or Are You A Mouse?

I am sure you have heard the saying, "Are you a man or a mouse?"

A few years back, I wrote a song that is mostly for children (but adults like it too) entitled Are You a Christian or Are You a Mouse?

When I wrote the song, I felt that many of God’s children were allowing the devil to push them around. I still feel that way. We just don’t enforce satan’s defeat as we should. Jesus defeated him when He arose from the grave, and the devil should hold no ground with us. In fact, over 2000 years ago, Jesus gave the devil a knockout punch that left him paralyzed, lying on the ground. Why then should we allow satan to rise up against us when he is down for the count? We shouldn’t!

(Ephesians 4:27) Neither give place to the devil.

What does neither give place to the devil really mean? It means:

Don’t give the devil audience. Don’t listen to anything he has to say.

Don’t get involved with anything he has done, is doing or is going to do.

To sum it up, let’s just say it this way: Don’t allow the devil to get close enough to throw a punch at you.

(1 Thessalonians 5:22) Abstain from all appearance of evil.

We Have Power

We have power that we’re not using. That power is lying dormant. When I think of dormant I think of doormat. You may laugh and say, "Why?" Well, think about it. When we continue to allow the power that God gave us through His Son Jesus Christ to lie dormant in our lives, we become doormats for satan to walk on.

Let’s face it. We’re not very smart to let the devil bully us around when our Big Brother has already slugged him. We are more than conquerors through Christ!

(Romans 8:37) Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

We don’t have to act like a scared little mouse and run and hide. We need to stand up and fight like men and women of God.

A Hollywood Star Versus a Real Star

We’ve all watched a movie, at some point, where our favorite character, the star of the show, is getting beaten up. In the movie it looks as if he has lost and the bad guys are going to win. But about three or four minutes before the show is over, the good guy stands up and with every last bit of energy he has left, he starts throwing punches and not one of the bad guys are left standing. This type of star comes out of Hollywood and so does the story line.

Now, lets turn our attention to a real Star—the Bright and Morning Star Jesus—not a character from Hollywood, but a real person from Heaven.

First of all, we need to point out that Jesus laid down His life…the devil didn’t take it.

(1 John 3:16) Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us.

Secondly, Jesus arose from the dead, forever triumphing over satan, destroying all his evil power.

(1John 3:8) …for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Two thousand years ago, when He went to the cross, it looked as if satan had won. But in the end, Jesus beat up the devil!

Listen, the devil doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Although he may limp by and yell boo, this doesn’t mean we have to be afraid. Let’s keep him down on the ground, under our feet, where Jesus put him over 2000 years ago.

In closing, I’d like to share with you the song I wrote for children and adults alike, now published as a poem at LoveChristNow.com.

Are You a Christian or Are You a Mouse?

Are you a Christian?

Are you a Mouse?

Stand up to satan

Or do without,

You've heard the saying

Fight like a man.

Are you a Christian?

Are you a mouse?

Satan sets

His little traps

To draw you in

Though you’re not a rat

If you get caught

And can’t get out,

You will feel

Just like a mouse.

He’ll feed you poison

Every day,

Using people

And things they say

He will try

To capture you

He has a trap

Set just for you.

He doesn’t use cheese

To catch you with,

He knows just what

To get you with

Stand up for Jesus

Stand up and shout,

I am a Christian

I’m not a mouse.
